  J&K High Court Calls for Stronger Penalties for Animal Cruelty J&K High Court Calls for Stronger Penalties for Animal Cruelty A significant observation for animal welfare and stronger legal protection The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has recently called for stricter penalties and jail terms for offences involving animal cruelty , highlighting concerns that the existing penalties under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 may not provide sufficient deterrence. The observations were made by a Division Bench comprising Justice Sanjeev Kumar and Justice Mohd. Yousuf Wani in Anwar Jan v. Union Territory of J&K .
