 JU Students Demand Urgent Action on Animal Welfare

Jammu, April 2:

Pashu Bandhu Parivar, a group created by students of Jammu University, submitted a strong memorandum to the Registrar, demanding immediate and concrete action to address ongoing animal welfare concerns within the campus.

The group raised serious issues including the continued absence of a structured animal welfare system, delays in constituting the Animal Welfare Club, and alarming past incidents of dog poisoning. They asserted that neglect and lack of coordination have worsened the situation for community animals.

Calling for accountability, the students have sought a written response within one month, detailing the university’s actions over the past three years. They also demanded transparency regarding the approval, structure, and operational status of the Animal Welfare Club.

Importantly, the memorandum presses for the immediate designation of feeding zones, citing Supreme Court directions on the protection and care of stray animals.

The group emphasized that animal welfare is not optional but a legal and moral responsibility, urging the administration to adopt a compassionate, practical, and well-regulated approach without further delay.
